El 19 de abril pasado, dimos un importante paso en nuestro avance gradual al retorno a las salas de clases, habilitando la alternativa de asistencia mixta. A prácticamente cuatro meses de ese hito, te contamos cómo lo hicimos posible.
¿Quieres saber cómo se implementó el sistema que nos permite interactuar con alumnos en aula y en las casas? Miss Edith Núñez y miss Evelin Pérez son las encargadas de Informática y quienes están detrás de este logro, que hace posible que todos nuestros alumnos, en la modalidad escogida por sus familias, puedan escuchar la misma clase a la vez. Un intenso trabajo que, cuentan, se concretó en abril pero comenzó el año pasado, buscando los mejores equipos y proveedores que permitieran asegurar un servicio de calidad que cumpliera con los estándares de excelencia exigidos por TISLS.
“Hubo mucha planificación previa, reuniones, proyectos. No fue fácil, porque había poco stock en el mercado y los precios eran elevados. Sin embargo, el colegio invirtió para equipar completamente todas las salas de clases y así estar preparados cuando llegara el momento del retorno presencial. Se instalaron cámaras, computadores y proyectores en cada una de las aulas, en un trabajo donde el área de mantención fue fundamental. Y en cuanto a logística, fuimos el primer colegio de La Serena en pedir una ampliación del internet dedicado, lo que nos favoreció directamente porque hoy contamos con conexiones muy fluidas. Sin embargo, el colegio estaba preparado de años anteriores con las instalaciones físicas de redes, lo que para nosotros fue un gran avance y una ayuda para que este objetivo principal de las clases híbridas se lograra”, asegura miss Edith.
Un trabajo que tuvo su prueba de fuego el 19 de abril pasado, cuando tras el avance de fase en La Serena y Coquimbo, pudimos volver a abrir nuestras puertas y concretar el tan esperado retorno presencial.
“Estábamos ansiosas, no sabíamos si todo lo que habíamos implementado iba a funcionar. La primera semana fue de mucho correr, apoyar a los profesores, fueron días exigentes pero en los cuales trabajamos con mucho compromiso y cariño. Somos un departamento transversal porque atendemos a alumnos, profesores, administrativos… y con la pandemia, se sumaron también los apoderados. Entonces asumimos también el desafío de apoyar en las casas, siempre pensando en la atención y solución inmediata”, agrega miss Edith.
Y mientras miss Edith es quien se encarga de monitorear el correcto funcionamiento del sistema a nivel computacional, es miss Evelin quien se enfoca en el trabajo en terreno, siempre atenta a los requerimientos que puedan aparecer desde las salas de clases.
“Ha sido un cambio importante, porque en mis 20 años en el colegio siempre he trabajado en base al contacto físico con alumnos y profesores. Hoy todo es en línea y a distancia, pero estoy contenta con lo que se ha logrado, con el apoyo de todos y ver cómo los niños se han adaptado y han evolucionado en este tiempo de clases presenciales. El uso de nuevas herramientas y plataformas es un aprendizaje todos los días”, indica.
Desafío importante sin duda, pero no es el primero que Edith y Evelin enfrentan en TISLS. Ambas recuerdan que cuando comenzaron les tocó levantar el departamento de Tecnología, implementando el internet en el edificio que hoy alberga al colegio. Y si bien en un comienzo fue difícil, se logró de manera exitosa, tal como sucede hoy con la metodología híbrida de enseñanza, en un año en que la tecnología se convirtió en el corazón de la educación. “El colegio es un equipo, una familia que funciona por el beneficio de todos. Tenemos una tremenda responsabilidad diaria, pero los profesores y niños también nos ayudan. La empatía de todos hace posible lograrlo”, dicen emocionadas.
Back to classrooms with an hybrid method of education: How we made it possible
On April 19th, we took a significant step on our “Back to School” schedule, by implementing the hybrid method education, and giving the parents the option of sending their kids to school. Four months from that, we tell you more about how we made it possible._
Do you want to know how we managed to install the system that helps us connect our students at home and at school at the same time in one class? Miss Edith Núñez and Miss Evelin Pérez are our Computer and Technology faculties, and the women behind this tremendous work that officially started last April, but that actually goes back to 2020, with the search of the best equipment for our TISLS community.
“We had a lot of previous planning… meetings, presentations. It wasn’t easy, because we couldn’t find many stock and faced elevated costs. But the school made the investment to equip all of the classrooms, so we could be ready to receive our students safely and properly. With the help of the maintenance area, we installed cameras, computers and projectors in every room. We were also the first school in La Serena to ask for the extension of our internet, and that timing contributed to have a fast connection. But I have to say… the school was ready years ago. The network they had was a big help for us to set up the hybrid method”, says Miss Edith.
An effort that faced its biggest test on April 19th, when we reopened our doors and finally could receive our students back to school.
“We were anxious. We didn’t know if everything would work as we planned. The first week was crazy, we ran a lot, helping teachers… They were demanding days, but we worked with commitment and care. We’re a department for all. We help our students, teachers, faculties… and in pandemic we also have to help parents. So, we assumed the challenge of supporting at home also, always thinking of giving immediate solutions to our TISLS community”, says Miss Edith.
And while she’s the one in charge of monitoring the computer system, Miss Evelin is the responsible of assisting on the field, always on the watch of any requirement from the classrooms.
“It’s been an important change, because in my 20 years at TISLS, I’ve always worked based in the physical contact with students and teachers. Today, everything is online, but I’m happy with what we’ve achieved, with everyone’s support, and seeing how our children have adapted and evolved in this period of hybrid classes. The usage of new platforms is a new learning every day”, she says.
An important challenge, but not the first one this teachers have to face in their years at TISLS. As they both remember, they had to “build” the Computer and Technology Lab, setting up internet in our new building back in 2002. And even though they recognize it wasn’t easy, it was a successful process, just like the one they are facing today with the hybrid method of education in a year in which technology became the heart of teaching. “TISLS is a team, a family in which everyone works for the community. We have a huge responsibility, but we move along with students and teachers help. Empathy makes it possible”, they say.
