El pasado sábado 22 de julio en la Escuela Rural El Tambo, ubicada en la localidad del mismo nombre, se dio inicio a English Horizons, programa que busca enseñar inglés a la comunidad, abarcando niños desde los 6 años de edad hasta personas mayores.
La Directora del programa, Belén Cerda, alumna de 12th, junto a sus compañeros Benjamín López, Vicenta Domínguez, Isidora Vallejos y Sofía Geraldo, realizaron una evaluación diagnóstica para medir el nivel de inglés de los asistentes, de forma tal de crear un plan de trabajo orientado a las necesidades puntuales de cada grupos etario.
La facilitadora y profesora acompañante del Programa, Miss Polett Castillo, valoró el compromiso de los estudiantes y el impacto que tiene su aporte para la comunidad de El Tambo, mientras que Andrea Poirot, directora de la agrupación Amigos de los Árboles, donará especies frutales y nativos para el establecimiento educacional.
Por su parte, Gloria Rojas, directora de la Escuela Rural El Tambo agradeció y valoró la iniciativa.
English Horizons: Solidarity and community bond.
The rural school El Tambo, located 25 minutes away from La Serena on the way to the Elqui Valley, was the selected place to launch a very significant initiative that combines language with community.
«English Horizons» is a program that seeks to teach English to the community, considering children from 6 years old on. Our 12th grade student, Belén Cerda, is the director of this initiative, and togather with her classmates Benjamín López, Vicenta Domínguez, Isidora Vallejos and Sofía Geraldo, carried out a diagnostic evaluation to measure the level of English of the attendees, in order to create a working plan oriented to the specific needs of each age group.
The facilitator and accompanying teacher of the Program, Miss Polett Castillo, highlitted our students’ commitment and the impact that their contribution has for the community of El Tambo.
Meanwhile, Andrea Poirot, director of the group Amigos de los Árboles, will donate fruit and nativr species for the educational establishment.
On the other hand, Gloria Rojas, El Tambo Rural School’ s headmistress, thanked and appreciated this initiative, that makes us feel proud of our students and of the way they seek to contribute to the community.
