El sábado 22 de octubre se cumplieron diez años del Programa de Extensión Cultural, hito que conmemoramos con la interesante presentación de la doctora Paula Baldwin, sobre qué nos dice Shakespeare de los astros.
Paula Baldwin Lind es doctora en Shakespeare Studies (Universidad de Birmingham, Inglaterra), Magíster en Literatura Inglesa de 1550-1780 (Universidad de Oxford, Inglaterra), y Licenciada en Letras, mención Lingüística y Literatura Inglesas (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile). Actualmente es consejera y Profesora Titular del Instituto de Literatura de la Universidad de los Andes (Chile).
La expositora nos llevó a comprender que cada mañana al despertar y en la noche, antes de dormir, miramos el cielo y contemplamos cómo este universo está lleno de vida: estrellas, meteoritos, cometas, la luna, el sol. Es el mismo firmamento que contemplaron nuestros antepasados, el mismo que observaron Homero, Galileo, Miguel Ángel, Leonardo Da Vinci, Pasteur, Napoleón, Arturo Prat, Gabriela Mistral, Violeta Parra y Pablo Neruda. Se asombraron también de este universo poblado de astros y cuerpos celestes William Shakespeare y sus contemporáneos y lo describieron en bellas imágenes construidas de palabras.
Durante el encuentro analizamos la obra del dramaturgo inglés desde la perspectiva de la astronomía y la astrología para comprender e interpretar mejor su significado, así como deleitarnos con la belleza de sus imágenes.
Agradecemos a Paula Baldwin y a cada uno de los asistentes que con sus preguntas, aportes y comentarios enriquecieron notablemente la jornada y dieron un nivel excepcional al cierre del décimo año de Programa de Extensión Cultural
With a workshop related to Shakespeare, we commemorated 10 years of our Cultural Extension Program
Last Saturday, October 22nd, our Cultural Extension Program celebrated its tenth anniversary, a milestone that we commemorated with the interesting presentation by Dr. Paula Baldwin, about what Shakespeare tells us about the stars.
Paula Baldwin Lind has a doctorate in Shakespeare Studies (University of Birmingham, England), a Master in English Literature from 1550-1780 (Oxford University, England), and a BA in English Linguistics and Literature (Universidad Católica de Chile). She is currently a counselor and professor at the Literature Institute at the Universidad de Los Andes (Chile).
The speaker led us to understand that every morning when we wake up and at night, before going to sleep, we look at the sky and contemplate how this universe is full of life: stars, meteorites, comets, the moon, the sun. It is the same firmament that our ancestors contemplated, the same that Homer, Galileo, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Pasteur, Napoleon, Arturo Prat, Gabriela Mistral, Violeta Parra and Pablo Neruda observed. William Shakespeare and his contemporaries were also amazed at this universe populated by stars and celestial bodies and described it in beautiful images made of words.
During the workshop, we analyzed the work of the English writer from the perspective of astronomy and astrology to better understand and interpret its meaning, as well as delight in the beauty of his images.
We thank Paula Baldwin and each of the attendees who with their questions, contributions and comments notably enriched the day and gave an exceptional level to the closing of the tenth year of our Cultural Extension Program.
